Poetry

Stirling Davenport

Stirling's poetry has appeared widely on line and in print, including samples on her weblog "Dreaming Out Loud."  Previously a member of Gather and  Electric Diary, Stirling is currently a member of the pre-Simulationists, a group of writers and artists experimenting with the relationships between space, time and consciousness in a technological age.

Dreaming Out Loud

A writer's escape into the inner world where imagination meets virtual reality.

Veils, Halos & Shackles

Kasva Press published this anthology subtitled "International Poetry on the Oppression and Empowerment of Women."

All over the world, girls and women are victims of violence, oppression, and discrimination. No country, no community, no religious or ethnic group is immune. Too often, women’s voices are stifled, ignored, or trivialized — and as a result, other victims of abuse feel alone and unsupported.

Veils, Halos & Shackles includes 249 poems by poets from dozens of countries — from Brazil to Bangladesh, from New Zealand to Nigeria. Many of the contributors are among the world’s most accomplished living poets.

"For the Somali Warrior"

Stirling Davenport's poem "For the Somali Warrior" envisions a rosier future for girls when they are allowed to grow up whole as they were created.

"When I read my poem at a gathering  in Sleepy Hollow, New York, I was profoundly moved by hearing the other poets who attended to read from their work.  Truly, if all artists give of themselves to the uplifting of others, we cannot fail to change the world."
